The Turkey Platter: A Quick History and Favorite Patterns
If you saw my post on creating a perfect vintage Thanksgiving table then you already know that I think the turkey platter is the star of the show. In my house, the ole gal isn’t allocated to the edge of the table, she’s put in prime location in the center of the table.
History
I was curious about how these got started and did a little research. According to an article I found on Nancy's Daily Dish, these bird beauties have been in production for nearly 100 years. English potters decided to profit on the official proclamation made by Abraham Lincoln to establish Thanksgiving by creating transferware showing off the holiday's mascot.
My Favorite Patterns
Probably the most popular of them all is Johnson and Brother's "His Majesty" Pattern. You know the one - you have seen it a million times.
You know how I feel about Blue and White....this Spode Turkey Platter is breathtaking!
The colors in this just feel like Thanksgiving and a perfect fall day.
Look at this unique McCoy Platter! I love how timeless the brown color is.
And finally, I absolutely love the black in this one. I want to buy this and put with black and white gingham napkins and a pink table cloth. How chic would that be!!!!!!
Do you have a family heirloom you use at your table for your beautiful bird?
