What Your Front Door Needs to Make a Great First Impression

While we all know not to judge a book by its cover, sometimes it is okay to question why so much attention has been paid to flower beds and not the front door.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a manicured lawn (not that I would know right now with all the weeds in mine) but I have long wondered why we neglect the last thing you see before you enter the home…your front door.

And, for me, adding a beautiful door knocker is the final touch of elegance…like putting on earrings. When I think back on some my limited travels, I think back to some of the quaint doors and unique hardware that would lure you in to courtyards, walkways and entryways of homes.

What I think is the most fun about a door knocker is how much it will tell you about the owners and the home you are about to enter! What is the design of the front door knocker? What metal do the homeowners prefer? Does the hardware seem to dance right off the door against whatever color the door is painted?

I actually have a beautiful brass door pull I want to use as a knocker in my future home. I am not ready to commit to this house since it won’t be our forever home.

Since I can’t commit yet to hanging this (I am the first to admit we are not in our forever home) I love looking at other vintage door knockers and getting inspiration. Here are some favorites!
